Why Volunteer at a Preschool?

At AAYA’s Memory Makers, we believe in the power of intergenerational connections. Volunteering at a preschool not only helps to foster a sense of curiosity and growth in young children, but it also provides an invaluable opportunity for high school students to develop mentorship skills that will shape their future.

By spending time with preschoolers, you have the chance to nurture their early learning experiences, guiding them through foundational concepts like communication, social skills, and creativity. This mentorship is incredibly impactful, as it helps children develop confidence and emotional intelligence while fostering a love for learning.

For high school volunteers, this experience allows you to grow in ways that go beyond academics. You’ll build patience, communication, and leadership skills as you engage with young minds. You’ll also gain a deeper understanding of child development, and learn how to foster a positive and encouraging environment for others. The experience of mentoring preschoolers cultivates empathy, responsibility, and a sense of community—valuable traits that will benefit you throughout life and make a lasting impression on your college applications.

By volunteering in this way, both you and the preschoolers will leave with more than just memories—you'll have contributed to a stronger, more connected community.
